so much more

I wrote this poem in July of 2019 during a period of hyperactivity. I remember during a busy home renovation I slept for four hours in four days. When I am in that phase, there is no talking me out of it. Often, in hindsight, I will realize I wasn't myself, but I felt GOOD. I may feel superhuman, have a sense of being more spiritually connected to God and more insightful in my relationships.

You are HOME.

You are HOME. Before you were conceived in your mother’s womb, you were LIGHT. Besides your physical form, what else is included? Everything you need is included. I recently bought a three-tiered shelf for a project I was doing at an office where I volunteer.

You are LOVE.

LOVE is the seventh and highest aspect of the soul because it encompasses the other six aspects – joy, peace, strength, courage, gratitude, and humility. Take a breath, inhale the life force of LOVE, and shift your awareness to your heart. How do you recognize LOVE? Be that which you are. You are LOVE.

You are HUMILITY.

Remember who we are. As humans, we think of being humbled by something embarrassing or shameful. We speak of “eating humble pie,” which means to make a mistake and own up to it. In high school, I ran to catch the bus and slipped on a muddy hillside in full view of my classmates. The cringe I am feeling right now is not humility. Think of the opposite.

You are GRATITUDE.

Since 1897, the Christian church has sung, “Count your blessings. Name them one by one.” Blessings are gifts that help us along life’s journey. Blessings take us home, back to the heart where GRATITUDE lives. Pure GRATITUDE is being grateful for simply being. We can send GRATITUDE to every cell of our body – arrant or healthy cells. Can we be grateful for those cells that are giving us dis-ease?

You are COURAGE.

Your soul knows no fear. Your soul does not worry or catastrophize. Your soul knows the beginning from the end. Those who do not choose a way of love in this lifetime have forgotten who they are. They will be loved back to wholeness in eternity. I take great COURAGE in the belief that no eternal punishment awaits those who might “deserve” it. There may be darkness for those who expect to receive it, but that is for a short time. They are not left to feel their remorse...

You are STRENGTH.

We are both body and soul. Everything that exists is energy. It is only differentiated by density. We live in these dense earth suits. What enlivens us is our spirits. Picture your body as a glove and your spirit as the hand that moves it. Your soul is eternal, limitless and timeless. I wrote a chapter in a book and had to devise a quote. Since the chapter is about an accident I experienced while running, I searched Google for hours,

You are PEACE.

What is the most peaceful thing you can think of? In one of my last texts to my sister, I encouraged her to think of the most loving, peaceful and joyful memory she could think of. She was having difficulty falling asleep amid extremely challenging circumstances. I texted, “If it doesn’t work the first time, start over.” She replied, “That is a great practice, thank you!”

You are JOY.

What is the most joyful thing you can think of? Is it an event, a person or a prized possession? I have a black-and-white photo of our grandson and his mom in my dining room. Both are laughing, and the boy is sticking out his tongue, which he often did as a baby. When my daughter-in-law gave it to me, she knew it would make me laugh. It always does.

We Are Love

During meditation, the word love became written across my body like an invisible tattoo. The L covered my head and left arm. The O was across my heart, the V landed on my lower torso and the E covered my leg and feet. I became love that day. Close your eyes and imagine love it across your body. Where and how is it written? Soul Words

Many years ago, I went to a fundraising event and saw a decorative birdcage. I deeply longed to be a bird on top of the cage, singing, and somehow, I knew I was holding a future promise. After my family returned from India, I listened to an audiobook called "The Science of Being Great" by Wallace Wattles. The author encourages us to obey our soul. I shouted, "I knew it!" [...]
