You are PEACE.
- Denise Nickel (Read in order – #3)
What is the most peaceful thing you can think of?
In one of my last texts to my sister, I encouraged her to think of the most loving, peaceful and joyful memory she could think of. She was having difficulty falling asleep amid extremely challenging circumstances. I texted, “If it doesn’t work the first time, start over.”
She replied, “That is a great practice, thank you!”
Her last words to me were, “Too cute,” when I texted her a picture of a gift I had received.
She passed away within twelve days of this interchange. In the days after her passing, I found PEACE in knowing she was no longer suffering. I gave her a standing ovation as I listened to the lyrics of a song by Tom Cochrane, “No Regrets.” She lived life on her terms.
PEACE amid sorrow. PEACE that goes above and beyond human understanding is found at a soul level. It takes a more extended vision and a higher perspective of what is.
PEACE is the other side of human drama – a spark, a light that extinguishes shadow. Look for PEACE within the light. It is there. I promise.
The idyllic shepherd scene of Psalm 23 brings me PEACE. The still waters, the lush grass, and the ever-seeking, competent Shepherd settle my mind and fill my heart with PEACE. My sister is there now – welcomed, healed and whole, probably on a tractor with my dad.
What brings you PEACE? Imagine it now and breathe it in and out. Slow the out-breath and make it longer. Write PEACE across your chest in imaginary ink. You are that.
Ever-present PEACE is your birthright as a soul. PEACE is your home. PEACE is your essence.
The ancient and ever-living Scriptures tell us that the PEACE of God will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
PEACE surrounds you. Can you feel it now?
